Past in the Present

Friday, January 2nd, 2009 marks day 3 of rallies against Israel's attack on the Gaza strip and is support of the struggle that Palestinians feel in America. The fact that America is blessed not to feel international war on our soil we, as Americans are some what detached from that struggle.

Today on Market and Powell at the cable car turnabout supporters young and old came out to stand in solidarity against a cultural genocide. The conflict between Palestine and Israel is ancient (I suggest you look into it for yourself if you truly want to understand... or want to try to understand)

Personally I am still looking into the conflict... and with the fact that Frisco is such a cultural mix it is important to understand the concept of struggle and the history of oppression and hate so that we do not repeat the cycles over and over... unfortunately people forget and allow the institution of racism and the acts of discrimination to pass on from one generation to the next... when will it end? We've come along way here in America in the way of civil rights... for the , African Americans, for the Jews, for the Irish, for the Italians, for Filipinos, for Asians, and Now for Arabs and Palestinians. The struggle is the same... isn't it? People just want a place to call home to be free in a space of their own...

In my internet research of the conflict I stumbled upon this organization called PEP (Palestine/Israel Education Project) who put together this amazing project.
