An American Tale
Meet my corner store guy.
On the now quiter corner on East 27th and 23rd Ave. in Oakland, Perdro and his business partner/brother have been serving the community for the past 10 years.
"I don't play, I have little bambitos and mothers that come to my store, I want to keep this a family place, " and he does this is one liquor store that you will never see block boys crowding around the door way or posted out side juking their goods.
I asked Pedro if he ever had to fire his weapon.
"I've been working here 9 years and until a year and a half ago I didn't have to fire my weapon. you remember those hoodie guys, you know the ones that have their hoods zipped up all the way up like a mask. He came up behind me and had a gun to my back, so I turned around and we both shot..."
"See this, this is where he got me." After that he tells me that when they went to court they made motions to deport him, "I'm a citizen I have my papers I pay my taxes, I own my business and this guy tried to rob me. I didn't want to be rude in court so I just provided them with my paper work and didn't say anything."
